It’s Natural to Fly Carbon Neutral
Climate change is one of the most important issues facing the world today. As one of Australia’s largest companies, Qantas has a significant environmental footprint and we accept our responsibility in managing our impact. Carbon Offsetting is one element of a broad strategy designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. The Group has a well-established fuel conservation program with challenging improvement targets including a 25% fuel efficiency target by 2020.
In September 2007, the Group launched carbon offsetting giving customers the option to offset their own share of flight emissions. The carbon offset payment goes towards Australian Government ‘Greenhouse FriendlyTM’ approved projects such as energy efficiency and tree planting projects which either remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere over a long period of time, or prevent an estimated quantity of greenhouse gases from being released in the first place.
Qantas recently announced that Fieldforce, a Greenhouse Friendly TM accredited provider, will supply the next group of credits for the Qantas carbon offset program. Fieldforce operates across Australia and generates carbon offsets by providing energy efficient light bulbs and water saving showerheads to eligible Australian homes and businesses.
Additional information on Qantas and Jetstar carbon offset programs are available at qantas.com and jetstar.com.
