India Mega Famil and Workshop (IMFW) 2012
(01 Sep 12 - 06 Sep 12)

Market overview

India is Australia’s eleventh largest inbound tourism market. Visitor arrival figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) for 2011 indicate there were 148,200 visitor arrivals from India, the largest number of Indian visitors to Australia in a single year and a 7 per cent increase compared to 2010.

IMFW provides an excellent platform to facilitate business relationships and ensure that leisure and Business Event (BE) visitors going forward drive tourist arrivals to Australia. Tourism Australia’s key market focus will be to continue to showcase Australia’s strengths as a destination in cooperation with industry partners, as well as highlighting the welcoming and multi-cultural elements that make Australia an ideal place for a holiday or business event. Tourism Australia will also continue to build on strong trade relationships and training programs for the leisure market, and work on positioning Australia as an ideal destination for business events.

Tourism Australia has an office in Mumbai and works closely with its partners to maintain the visibility of Australia amongst target customers and to develop and service the Aussie Specialists Programme in India as part of its trade development program. There are currently more than 690 travel agents/consultants from 265 travel agencies throughout the main markets in India who are qualified Aussie Specialists. Of these 265 agencies, 108 have been given priority visa processing by the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), and 25 have been granted electronic access for visa processing.
